Obituary: Alfredo Marquez

Waukesha man dies at age 90.

Alfredo Marquez, of Waukesha, died on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 90.

He was born in Mexico on July 23, 1922, the son of the late Sabino and Raquel (nee Gonzalez) Marquez.

Alfredo came to the United States in 1944 to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad in Odgen, Utah, during World War II. He later came to Wisconsin where he met, courted and married Maria “Mary” Llanas on Jan. 28, 1948. Alfredo retired from Grede Foundry of Waukesha after 35 years of service. He then worked as a custodian for the Waukesha School District for the next 14 years.

Alfredo was very interested in his crafting with macramé, as well as keeping physically fit, with his love of bike riding, swimming and sunbathing at Minooka Park.

Alfredo will be sadly missed by his wife Mary Marquez of Waukesha and their children: Alfredo “Fred” (Karen) Marquez of New Berlin, Mario Marquez of Oconomowoc, Teresa Mata of Muskego and Genoveva “Genny” (Steven) Marquez-Meyer of Mount Pleasant. Alfredo was also blessed with three grandchildren: Michael (Kim) Marquez of Milwaukee, Marcela Mata of Waukesha and Adrian Mata of Milwaukee and two great-grandchildren, Michael and Xavier Marquez.

He is further survived by his brother, David (Marina) Marquez and his sister, Celia (the late Benjamin) Lara both of Mexico City along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Rosario, Victoria, Antonio, Daniel, Abel, Trine, Inez, Refuio and Celia.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha. Visitation continues at the funeral home on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service. Burial will immediately follow at Prairie Home Cemetery.
