OBIT: Shirley Tompkins

Waukesha woman, 68, loved making banana splits for family members.

Shirley Tompkins, of Waukesha, passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer, on Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, surrounded by her family at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at the age of 68 years.

Shirley was born on Dec. 15, 1942, in Chicago, the daughter of Clarence and Ann Jendro.   Shirley was a member of S She loved to crochet and go on vacations. She lived to shop and enjoy Christmas with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They especially enjoyed the banana split sundaes she would make for them. Shirley was a 17-year cancer survivor who never let any of her disabilities slow her down.

Through the challenges with her health she continued to travel and be as independent as possible with an enthusiastic attitude to thrive and enjoy life.

Shirley will be deeply missed by her loving children, Beverly (Jerry) Schienebeck of Ixonia,  Michelle (Greg) Malsack of Waukesha and John Tompkins of Wind Lake; her dear grandchildren, Bradley, Casi, Amanda, Andrew, Jordan and Brittany; her great grandchildren,  Adren and Brisa; brothers, Larry (Terry) Grimmer of Sussex and Harry (Sean) Grimmer of Menomonee Falls; sisters, Debbie Koenig of New Berlin and Renee (Hugh) Mc Sorley of Waukesha; sisters – in –law,  Shirley Maile of Waukesha and Ruth Lukomski of Milwaukee; other relatives and friends.   She is preceded by her parents and her husband, Dale. 

The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. at St. William Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, WI 53188.   The Rev. Kevin Barnekow officiating.   The visitation will be held on Friday, September 16, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, WI 53188.   The second visitation will be held on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until the 9:30 a.m. mass at St. William Catholic Church.   Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Waukesha.   Masses are appreciated in Shirley’s name.
