OBIT: Gordon F. Severson

Waukesha man received the Purple Heart during World War II.

Gordon F. Severson, of Waukesha, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at the age of 85.

He was born on Feb. 15, 1926, in Milwaukee, the son of Gordon Berg and Esther (nee Hinze) Severson. He was a graduate of South Division High School and Milwaukee School of Engineering.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army with the Tenth Mountain Division in Italy, during World War II.  He was the recipient of the Purple Heart.  On May 22, 1948, he married the former Arlene Meister in Milwaukee.  He had worked for Sears in sales and the service department.  He then worked for Singer Controls and later the Department of Defense, before retiring in 1988.  He was a proud lifelong member and past commander of the American Legion, member of the Civil Air Patrol and Milwaukee Concertina Club.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Arlene of Waukesha, along with their children Dale (Barbara) Severson of Waukesha, Wayne Severson of West Allis and Eric (Michele) Severson of the town of Waukesha.  He is further survived by 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his sister Florence.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 30, from 3 p.m. until the 7 p.m. funeral service at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha.  The Rev. Steve Keilly presiding.
