Funeral Services Scheduled for Drowning Victim

William Nelson of Waukesha died while kayaking on Memorial Day.

Funeral services for the 64-year-old Waukesha man who drowned on Memorial Day in a Washington County lake have been set for Sunday in Waukesha.

The visitation is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Church and Chapel Funeral Home, 380 Bluemound Road, Waukesha. The service begins at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Nelson’s obituary.

Nelson was kayaking Monday afternoon on Wallace Lake and fell into the lake. Nelson was not wearing a life jacket and fell into the lake because of the windy conditions and choppy waters, according to authorities in the Town of Trenton.

Area residents pulled Nelson out of the water to the shore and began performing CPR until the Newburg Rescue personnel arrived on scene. Nelson was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Jackson where he was pronounced deceased at 4:58 p.m. Monday.
