Wisconsin Wind Orchestra performs at Carroll

The first concert of the Carroll University music season is by Wisconsin Wind Orchestra. The university’s resident professional ensemble is conducted by Lawrence Dale Harper, professor of music, and the performance will be Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at 8 p.m. in Humphrey Memorial Chapel, 238 N. East Ave., Waukesha. It is free and open to the public.

Wisconsin Wind Orchestra will open the concert with “Italian Girl in Algiers” by Gioacchino Rossini, and then Suzanne Geoffrey, instructor of oboe at Carroll, will perform the “Introduction, Theme and Variations” by Johann Nepomuk Hummel, transcribed for 10 winds from the chamber orchestra version. The group also will perform “The Casbah of Tetouan,” a solo piece for five French horns by Kerry Turner. The concert concludes with the romantic and lush “Suite in B-Flat” by Richard Strauss.

This same concert also will be performed as part of the Searle Pickett Chamber Music Series on Friday, Oct. 4. The performance will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Church of Our Savior, 363 S. Main St., Fond du Lac.
