Visiting Italian musicians will perform medieval music

Carroll University will host 30 Italian musicians from the City Band of Norcia and the City Band of Bevagna, and their maestro, Filippo Salemmi, from April 21-27, 2014.

On Wednesday, April 23, they will present a concert of medieval music at 9:20 a.m. in the auditorium of Shattuck Music Center, 218 N. East Ave., Waukesha. The ensemble uses authentic medieval instruments, such shawms, racketts and krummhorns, and other percussion for a performance that will feature music from 1300-1600 by prominent composers of the time. The concert will be accompanied by slides and discussion of medieval instruments and music.

This event is free and open to the public. It is a precursor to the main event, an “Italian Serenade” concert with Carroll’s Wind Symphony on Saturday, April 26. That concert begins at 8 p.m. in Shattuck Music Center, and also is free to attend.
