Veteran presents peacemaking lecture at Carroll

A veteran of the U.S. Army will present “Make Peace, Not War” on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at Carroll University. Paul K. Chappell will speak at 7 p.m. in Shattuck Music Center, 218 N. East Ave., Waukesha. This event is free and open to the public.

Chappell is the peace leadership director for the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, which educates and advocates for peace and a world free of nuclear weapons, and empowers peace leaders. His presentation will focus on institutionalized approaches to conflict on an international level, while challenging and inspiring students and others to consider the ways we participate in war and peacemaking.

Chappell graduated from West Point in 2002 then served in the Army. He was deployed to Baghdad in 2006, and left active duty as a captain in November 2009. Part African-American, part Korean and part Caucasian, Chappell dedicates his time to waging peace and ending war. He also is the author of the Road to Peace series, seven books about waging peace, ending war, the art of living and what it means to be human. He has appeared on Oprah Radio, Book TV, National Public Radio, Pacifica Radio and the Voice of America.

This event is part of Carroll’s yearlong exploration of Humanity. In classrooms, workshops, lectures, discussions and through the performing arts, the campus community will examine how war, ethics, science, religion, hunger, abuse and lack of civility affect our humanity, both individually and collectively.

Chappell’s presentation is sponsored by Carroll’s Spiritual Life Advisory Board. For more information, contact Rev. Bill Humphreys at chaplain@carrollu.edu.
