New Carroll University gallery named for alumna

A new gallery in Carroll University's Main Hall has been named in memory of Joyce Paddock Bliss, a 1948 graduate who majored in English and art.

A new gallery in Carroll University’s Main Hall, 120 N. East Ave., Waukesha, has been named in memory of Joyce Paddock Bliss, a 1948 graduate who majored in English and art. She died on June 11, 2011, and the space is a gift from her estate.

The Paddock Bliss gallery replaces the Humphrey Art Center’s former Rowe Art Gallery, which has been converted into a Macintosh computer lab most used by students in the Graphic Communication program. The Marceil Pultorak Atrium Gallery remains, and is located on the first and second floors of the Art Center.

The debut exhibit in the Paddock Bliss Gallery is by Jen Moon, an assistant professor of art who teaches photography and digital media at Carroll. Her series, “I’ve Been There: A Namesake Tour of Iowa,” features towns in Iowa with famous names, such as international locations (Jamaica and Rome) or familiar namesakes (Orient and Jefferson), and documents the spaces that give shape and definition to these locales.
