Carroll University’s 2013 Summer Arts Series continues with a performance by the Catholic Memorial High School Jazz Ensemble. The concert begins at 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 9. This event is free and open to the public.

The outdoor concert will be at The Plaza between Shattuck Music Center, Todd Wehr Memorial Library, Otteson Theatre and Van Male Field House. If weather requires, the concert will be held in Otteson Theatre, 238 N. East Ave. Some seating will be provided, but guests are encouraged to bring blankets, picnic baskets and non-alcoholic beverages. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from Carroll University Dining Services.

The Catholic Memorial High School Jazz Ensemble is designed as a traditional American Big Band, and meets every other day on a for-credit basis at CMH. The band is dedicated to exploring music of the swing, Latin, rock and funk traditions, striving for stylistic authenticity and creative expression. Jazz Ensemble has performed at Waukesha’s Jazz in Cutler Park, at the Archbishop’s annual Catholic Schools Dinner held at Marquette University, and at the Abbey Resort on Lake Geneva for the Spring Assembly of Priests. It is scheduled to perform in September on the Student Stage at Downtown Waukesha’s Friday Night Live. Two recent alumni of the ensemble are currently pursuing degrees in Jazz studies, having earned full music scholarships at highly respected universities. Pete Lange has directed the ensemble since 2009.
