Carroll's Enactus team places at national expo

Carroll University’s Enactus team finished as Opening Round Finalists at the 2014 Enactus United States National Exposition in Cincinnati, Ohio. President Jordyn Herzog, a junior from Abrams, Wis., led the Carroll team against 200 other teams from around the country April 1-3.

At the expo, business students receive professional feedback on their research in the field while competing and interacting with their peers. This is the second consecutive year the group has won at the regional level. Last April, Carroll’s team won the regional competition in Chicago, based on projects that had the greatest impact on the local community, and advanced to nationals.

This year, Carroll’s team included freshman Brittany Radish from Muskego, Wis.; senior Kaylor Detert from Waterloo, Wis.; sophomore Alison Lambrecht from Muskego; junior Jenni Vu from Hanoi, Vietnam; junior Ben Vickman from De Pere, Wis.; and freshman Jacob Lail from Racine, Wis.

Carroll competed against the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Alcorn State University and Texas State University-San Marcos in the opening round. The team came just shy of advancing as one of the sweet 16 to the quarterfinal, but was invited to attend several private receptions to network with sponsoring companies and recruiters. A representative of Wal-Mart was impressed with the students’ presentation and gave Lambrecht her business card.

“I am so proud of our team and all we have accomplished this year. We really had a great group and I am looking forward to engaging more students next year,” Herzog said.

Michael Levas is the team adviser. He said, “I’m really proud of the students. They competed against larger schools and had great success. The competition was an exceptional professional learning experience for them. The Enactus team should be commended for its hard work and willingness to take full advantage of opportunities available in the business program at Carroll University.”
