Carroll's educational technology expert presents at national conference

Dr. Terri Johnson, director of the Center for Educational Technology and Innovation (CETI) at Carroll University, will present at the seventh annual Emerging Technology for Online Learning (ET4 Online) symposium in Dallas, Texas.

Held April 9-11, 2014, the conference includes workshops, keynote speakers and presentations by members of the Sloan Consortium (Sloan-C), a professional online learning society devoted to advancing quality e-education learning into the mainstream of education, and Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching (MERLOT), a free, peer-reviewed collection of online teaching and learning materials and faculty-developed services. The ET4Online symposium is devoted to the emerging and innovative uses of technology designed to improve teaching and learning online.

Johnson will share a proposal, “Ed Tech Project Support: New Model Provides Tech Support to Faculty and Students for Class Assignments.” Carroll University faculty often come to CETI expressing their students’ frustration with technology-based projects. Johnson proposes that the Ed Tech Project Support Team has helped students and faculty use technology more effectively.

“CETI student workers are invited by professors on the day the project is introduced and walk the class through procedures with the professor,” Johnson said. Follow-up emails and the CETI website provide additional support.

Johnson found that having the Ed Tech Project Support Team assist with teaching new technologies for class assignments resulted in overall satisfaction, both for the professors and their students. CETI is now seeing an increased demand to provide services for classroom technology projects, particularly video. Johnson looks forward to working with more Carroll faculty on their technology needs to enhance student learning.
