Carroll University Launches Scholars for Life This Fall

The Lifelong Learning seminars are geared toward older adults who yearn for intellectual stimulation

Waukesha—(June 19, 2014)— Carroll University is launching its new Scholars For Life seminars, a lifelong learning program available to the public this August. The program will feature three seminars focused on the art of music, theatre and photography. Each seminar is three days—August 25, 26 and 27—from 9 a.m. to noon and located on Carroll University’s main campus. The seminar fee is $90 and includes lunch and parking.

“We designed Scholars for Life for people who are looking to explore new topics or gain additional insight into subjects they may already be familiar with,” said Doug Hastad, president of Carroll University. “The three-day seminars are inclusive and will build collaborative learning communities—magnifying the joy of learning and building a supportive environment that encourages the exchange of innovative ideas.”

The Scholars for Life music seminar titled, “The Music and Times of Bach, Mozart and Beethoven,” will be taught by Mark Aamot at Main Hall. Aamot is Carroll University’s professor emeritus. The seminar will explore the life and times of three of the greatest composters of the western world. The theatre seminar titled, “Shakespeare: A Writer Not For An Age But For All Time,” is instructed by John Garrison at Main Hall. Garrison is the assistant professor of English at Carroll University. The theatre seminar will study a selection of Shakespeare’s work that spans his career. Lastly, the digital photography seminar titled, “Creating Better Photographs: Learning to Use Your Digital Camera,” is instructed by Phillip Krejcarek at the Humphrey Art Center. Krejcarek is a professor of art and chair of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Carroll University. The focus of this seminar is on using digital cameras as a tool for creativity and self-expression.

Space is limited for the program and those interested should register today at http://www.carrollu.edu/scholarsforlife/, and/or via contacting Gina Ehler, Carroll University Executive Assistant to the President at 262-524-7247 or gehler@carrollu.edu.
