Madison Co-Poet Laureate Will Read at Carroll

Sarah Busse, co-poet laureate of Madison, will read at Carroll University on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Humphrey Memorial Chapel, 238 N. East Ave., Waukesha. It is free and open to the public.

Busse is co-editor of the poetry magazine Verse Wisconsin and Cowfeather Press. Her own poetry has received the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets' Chapbook Prize, the Council for Wisconsin Writers' Lorine Niedecker Prize and a Pushcart Prize. Her first full-length collection, Somewhere Piano, was published in 2012 by Mayapple Press, and she has two chapbooks, Quiver (2009, Red Dragonfly Press) and Given These Magics, (2010, Finishing Line Press).

With Wendy Vardaman, Busse is one of two poets laureate of Madison, serving from 2012 to 2016. Their vision and mission is to integrate poetry into the fabric of civic life, ritual and the everyday. To do so, they will place poetry before the public in surprising places and spaces, create conversation about poetry, connect poets and groups of poets to each other and to other artists, and build bridges between people using poetry. Madison is one of the first cities in the nation to have a poet laureate, since 1977.
