Carroll Student to Walk 20 Miles for Water Charity

Garrett Sheskey, a Carroll University senior from Waukesha, was one of 10 people in the United States and one of only 30 worldwide whose ideas were selected by charity:water to help bring attention to the world water crisis.

On World Water Day, Friday, March 22, 2013, Sheskey will walk 20 miles to raise awareness about the lack of safe drinking water in many parts of the world, and to raise money to help address that issue. Experts estimate that 800 million people around the globe, most of them in developing countries, do not have access to clean water.

charity:water is a non-profit organization, headquartered in New York City, dedicated to bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations.

Sheskey will start his walk at 10 a.m. in front of Main Hall on the Carroll campus and end it approximately eight hours later at the Lake Michigan lakefront at Discovery World, using, in part, the New Berlin and Hank Aaron State trails.

He also will connect with area schools to spread the message about the scarcity of clean water and ask students to sign the Birthday Pledge on charity:water's website. 

“I have a passion to educate people on the world’s water issues,” Sheskey said.

By signing the Birthday Pledge, people ask family and friends to donate to charity:water instead of buying birthday presents. All birthday donations go directly to clean water projects.
