Jen Moon, assistant professor of art at Carroll University, was awarded third place in the 2012 PhotoMidwest Seven State Juried Photography Exhibit for her entry, "Jefferson, Iowa."

Jen Moon, assistant professor of art at Carroll University, was awarded third place in the 2012 PhotoMidwest Seven State Juried Photography Exhibit at the opening on Sept. 14, 2012. Her project, “I’ve Been There: A Namesake Tour of Iowa,” features a series of towns in Iowa with famous names, such as international locations (Jamaica and Rome) or familiar namesakes (Orient and Jefferson), and documents the spaces that give shape and definition to these locales.

The Seven State Juried Exhibit is on display at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Memorial Union through Oct. 30. A total of 109 photographers residing Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin submitted 440 entries. Moon’s piece, “Jefferson, Iowa,” was one of 49 images selected for the exhibit by juror Sam Abell, a documentary photographer, instructor and mentor who has worked for National Geographic.

Moon joined the Carroll faculty in 2010, and teaches photography and digital media. She lives in Milwaukee.
