United Way Connects the Community to Volunteer Opportunities

(July 18, 2013)—United Way in Waukesha County would like to invite volunteers to the following volunteer opportunities:

Outdoor Sports Tournament, Special Olympics Wisconsin Greater Milwaukee Area, Waukesha

Volunteers are needed to escort athletes, present awards and more at the first-ever Special Olympics Wisconsin State Outdoor Sports Tournament held in Waukesha on August 3-4, 2013! Nearly 1,000 athletes will compete in tennis, bocce, golf, softball and tee ball at Carroll University, the Moor Downs Golf Course, and the Saratoga Softball Complex! Volunteers receive a free T-shirt and will witness how Special Olympics reveals the champion in all of us. A variety of volunteer shifts are available and those working a full day will receive a complimentary lunch. For more information or to sign up, call (800) 552-1324 or visit SpecialOlympicsWisconsin.org.

Antique & Classic Boat Show Concession Volunteer, Pewaukee Area Arts Council, Pewaukee

If you like boating and being near the lakefront in downtown Pewaukee, this is the perfect volunteer opportunity for you! PAAC is in need of 4-6 helpers for our concession stand at the Antique & Classic Boat Show on Saturday, August 17. Wooden boats, antique bicycles, vintage cars, kids activities and more! PAAC is selling concessions and we need volunteers to be able to work on their feet, greet the public with a smile, collect money and produce change, and deliver food to happy customers. Many of our volunteers enjoy the experience so much they become members of the PAAC! Why not support the arts by volunteering under our tent along the lakefront? Cool breeze guaranteed! You choose the hours - try a 2 hour shift, 4 hour shift, or all 8 hours if you're up for it! We need you! Bring a friend! Training provided on the job! Come prepared to throw on a PAAC apron and start selling concessions to a hungry public! Enjoy live music right next door at the beach house during your volunteering hours!

Backpack Distribution Set-up, Backpack Coalition, Inc., Waukesha

We need your help on August 23rd to prepare for the backpack distribution event! This entails setting up the Waukesha County Health and Human Services site for the distribution of 2,000 backpacks the next day. Volunteers would have the opportunity to help on the following day as well - there is nothing that compares to seeing the joy on a child's face as they receive a brand new backpack filled with grade appropriate supplies! Snacks provided. This opportunity does involve some moving of the completed backpacks to the area designated for the children to receive them.

Tutors Needed – Riverside Elementary, Interfaith Senior Programs, Menomonee Falls
Make a difference in a child's life! The Seniors and Students Program offers individuals over 55 the opportunity to work in a school setting to assist teachers in a variety of tasks. Opportunities include one on one tutoring, working with small groups of students in a variety of subjects, office and clerical work, library, and general help to teachers in the classroom. Individualized placement is offered and training is provided. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday during school hours.
