United Way Connects the Community to Volunteer Opportunities

(February 26, 2014)—United Way in Waukesha County would like to invite volunteers to the following volunteer opportunities:

Marketing and Social Media Specialist - Waukesha
Marketing & Resource Development committee members needed. These people are responsible for fund raising events, communications, public relations, our web presence and social media. Volunteers are especially needed to assist with our May 17th Run/Walk Fund raising event. Volunteers willing to drop off fliers would need their own transportation and must be outgoing. Often times, this is as simple as asking a business owner to let you hang a flier or leave a stack of brochures. Volunteers willing to compile email and mailing lists would need internet access, their own computer and a basic knowledge of Excel or Google Docs. This task would require research and may be best suited to someone comfortable searching the web for contact information (LinkedIn, Google, etc.). Volunteers willing to help out on website, email marketing or social media should be familiar with html, blogging, linking, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google + etc. Volunteers willing to help with newsletters should be comfortable writing and have Adobe InDesign experience with their own access to the program.

Large Need for Meal Drivers! - Waukesha
Drivers are needed to deliver meals once a week or twice a month to seniors living in Waukesha County. Receiving this meal allows home bound older adults to live longer in their own home. It also helps seniors receive proper nutrition and maintain their independence. Help is needed from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm week-days in a variety of Waukesha County locations.. Individuals, couples, friends and neighbors can do this together. Training and mileage reimbursement is provided.

Trail Breaker Marathon Volunteers - Waukesha
The Trail Breaker Marathon starts at Frame Park in Waukesha. The course is on the Glacier Drumlin Trail and proceeds to Lapham Peak State Park. The runners climb the tower in the park and head back to Frame and the finish line. Over 100 volunteers are needed to work the aid stations, registration booth and provide directions and traffic control to the runners while in the city. The run is April 5th, 2014. The volunteers will be outside for up to 6 hour although we do have shifts that will only last two hours. Only requirements are dressing for all kinds of variable weather and being at least 16 years of age!

Easter at the Y - Oconomowoc
Children up to age 10 and younger enjoy visiting with the Easter bunny, and Easter egg hunt, as well as Easter crafts and activities. Volunteers should be high school age or older. Event takes place on April 5th, 2014.

5 Flowers, 4 Stories, 3 Cheers for Animals! Journey Jumpstart
