United Way Connects the Community to Volunteer Opportunities

(January 22, 2014)—United Way in Waukesha County would like to invite volunteers to the following volunteer opportunities:

Financial Fitness 101 - Waukesha
We are proud to announce the 8th Annual "Financial Fitness 101" event for School District of Waukesha students. This activity provides students the opportunity to apply their budgeting skills and test their financial literacy. We anticipate over 350 high school students participating through a rotation schedule. You and your company will have the opportunity to engage, inform and discuss the financial realities of being a consumer in a hands-on, interactive situation. We invite you and/or your business to participate in this "reality store" to help shape a student's financial future. Flexible times on March 14, 2014.

Home Safety Kit Drive - Waukesha
Unfortunately, many families cannot afford to purchase the proper materials to ensure the safety of their family. That is why we are calling on the generous and caring folks of Waukesha County to help us out! The safety kits may include: cabinet locks, outlet covers, baby gates, smoke detectors, CO2 detectors, door knob locks, refrigerator locks, etc. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their kits to the office so that we may thank them in person and provide a tour of our building. We also have a conference room in the lower level if you would like to put the kits together here at our building.

Calling All Cowgirls - Waukesha
Be a Girl Scout Event Volunteer and share your passion, have fun, and positively impact girls' lives. Activities are already created and materials provided. Assist or lead a group of 15-20 girls grades 4-5. It’s a party! Girls plan and host a barn dance for Girl Scout Brownies. Assist girls as they make a bandana, learn and teach a line dance then put on their cowgirl hats and kick up their heels to host the barn dance they have prepared. Event sessions on February 8th and 22nd.

Sweetheart Dance – Oconomowoc
Come help out at a fun Valentine’s Day event. This evening is geared towards kids 10 and younger as well as their families. It includes a DJ, bounce house, crafts, cake walk and much more. Volunteers would help with these activities. Volunteers should be high school aged or older.

Newspaper Researcher – Menomonee Falls
If you love finding information or resources, this opportunity is for you! Volunteers are needed to assist the editor with researching information for a 24-page publication that helps single mother families. Gather information, check facts, and help the editor by updating resources and information on community events. Work takes place during the 2-3 weeks before the issue is published. Must be very accurate, skilled at Internet searches, and persistent at finding information. Writing ability and knowledge of metro events and resources a plus. Volunteers work from home on their computers: some phone-calling needed to check facts. Our newsletter is published quarterly. Time spent each quarter could be 8 to 15 hours (depending on how much time you have available; editor will email items for look-up in accordance with your schedule.)
