United Way Connects the Community to Volunteer Opportunities

(March 26, 2014)—United Way in Waukesha County would like to invite volunteers to the following volunteer opportunities:

Social Media Volunteer – Waukesha
Do you want to help a child succeed in school? Then join the Backpack Coalition, Inc. in the effort to supply children with the tools they need to get the most out of their education! We are looking for a volunteer who can assist us for about 20 total hours between April and September. The responsibilities of this volunteer include updating website content and composing and posting updates and strive to increase flow on social media sites.

Bakers Needed!  – Waukesha
Each year on Good Friday, the Literacy Council of Greater Waukesha holds a bake sale at the downtown branch of Waukesha State Bank. The proceeds from the bake sale support LCGW's program of matching volunteer tutors with adults and children who need to improve their basic skills. Volunteers are needed to provide baked goods for the bake sale. Families are invited to help as long as there is parental supervision of children

Walk MS Volunteer - Waukesha
The success of Walk MS is directly related to the wonderful volunteers who help make the event a great experience. We welcome volunteers with a wide range of skills, talents, abilities and interests. Families, corporate groups, and individuals are welcome to participate. Positions include: Set up, registration, greeters, rest stop (hand out snack & drink), photography, medical support, tear down and more! The only requirement we have of you is a sincere desire to help us end MS forever.

Birthday Party Planner - Brookfield
Organize parties for children 6-12. A 1.5 -2 hour program consists of games and animal socialization. Parties are on Saturdays or Sundays (11-1 or 1-3) or Fridays from 4-6pm. Volunteer hours are flexible and you do not need to be available at all 3 of those times. Training is provided. Must love children and entertainment! This is a fun way to help the animal shelter and a great opportunity for a parent/child or an outgoing teen volunteer.

Hospice Companion Volunteer - Brookfield
Allay Hospice Companions help to personalize, support and enhance the quality of our patients' lives by bringing the gift of friendship through regular visits with our patients. These volunteers offer companionship, emotional support and respite care. Volunteer hours are flexible and scheduled according to your availability. Duties are assigned based on your abilities and comfort level. To keep your travel to a minimum, volunteers are assigned to visit patients within their own community. Our Companion Volunteers receive training. As we care for patients in their own homes or in extended care facilities throughout Southeast Wisconsin, some travel is required. Hospice Companions must be at least 18 years old.
