United Way Connects the Community to Volunteer Opportunities

(September 11, 2013)—United Way in Waukesha County would like to invite volunteers to the following volunteer opportunities:

Tutors Needed, Menomonee Falls & Sussex

Make a difference in a child's life! The Seniors and Students Program offers individuals over 55 the opportunity to work in a school setting to assist teachers in a variety of tasks. Opportunities include one on one tutoring, working with small groups of students in a variety of subjects, office and clerical work, library, and general help to teachers in the classroom. Individualized placement is offered and training is provided. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday during school hours.

Helpline Volunteer, Waukesha

Volunteers are needed to assist with answering and managing Helpline calls. The primary responsibility of the Helpline Volunteer is to take information and crisis calls from the Helpline. Volunteers should possess excellent oral communication and active listening skills, as well as the ability to provide feedback in a positive, non-judgmental manner. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Training will be provided.

Wii Games with Older Adults, Waukesha

We are looking for an enthusiastic, engaging volunteer to assist older adults and adults with disabilities to enjoy playing Wii Games such as bowling, archery and golf. This opportunity is available Monday thru Friday from 10:30 am - 11:30 am or 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm. There will be up to four program participants playing per time slot. Individuals are asked to serve at least one day weekly on a consistent basis. Training will be provided prior to working with program participants. Requirements: Minimum age is 18 years old. Interested volunteers need to be comfortable working with older adults and persons with disabilities. A comfort level with persons with dementia symptoms is preferred.

Christmas Office Opportunity, Waukesha

Volunteers are needed to answer phone calls from people who wish to help others for Christmas, match them with the families in need, write up the matches, help with mailings, filing and other office duties. Offices are open seasonally from the week of 10/21-- the week of 12/9. We staff three volunteers from 9:00-12:00 and three from 12:00-3:00 five days a week for the 8 week season. The commitment would be 1 shift a week for 8 weeks. (same day/shift each week). Requirements: Volunteers must be a minimum age of 18 years or older. Training is provided.

Event Volunteers Needed, Waukesha

The Walk to End Alzheimer's at Frame Park is upon us, and we are still in need of a few good men and women! If you like socializing, paperwork, food, music and exercise this is the event to volunteer! The event is this Saturday, September 14th at Frame Park in Waukesha. Volunteers can be any age and we encourage groups and families to volunteer! A short training will be given the day of the event for all volunteers.
