United Way Connects the Community to Volunteer Opportunities

(January 15, 2014)—United Way in Waukesha County would like to invite volunteers to the following volunteer opportunities:

A World of Girls Journey Jumpstart - Waukesha
Be a Girl Scout Event Volunteer and share your passion, have fun, and positively impact girls' lives. Activities are already created and materials provided. Assist or lead a group of 15-20 girls grades 2-3. Girls set out on a Journey to explore how games and stories link them to other girls around the world. Assist girls as they discover how girls are changing the world and how you can too. Two sessions are available on February 1st.

Website Developer Internship - Waukesha
Nonprofit disability support services agency is seeking a talented volunteer SharePoint Designer to develop and implement an agency portal for users in multiple locations. Ideally, the volunteer will be familiar and have experience with standard SharePoint 2010 environments, SharePoint Designer tools, CSS templates, JQuery, JavaScript, XSL and HTML development. This is a 3-6-month project.

Volunteer Management Internship - Hartland
As the Volunteer Management Intern you will gain valuable experience learning about the planning and execution of fundraising events by working closely with the logistics, development, and volunteer management teams. You will assist in coordinating event logistics, finalizing event preparations, researching event venues and providing volunteer trainings. You will have opportunities to research organizations to recruit volunteers, a critical element of event planning and will work to coordinate volunteer schedules. Must be available to work events taking place on Saturdays and/or Sundays.

Minor Home Repairs Volunteer - Waukesha
Help a neighbor to remain independent in their home by helping out with small minor repairs around the home or yard. Handy person needed to make minor home repairs, change light bulbs, fix plumbing, etc. Dates and times are flexible, based on the client's schedule. Volunteers must be a minimum of 18 years old.

Medical Clinic Spanish Interpreter – Waukesha
Almost one third of hospital clients are Spanish-speaking. It is important that these patients can communicate with the healthcare providers and understand the information that they receive. The interpreter plays a critical role in this process, helping patients fill out financial forms to qualify for services, explaining clinic procedures, and, if qualified, interpreting for the medical staff. Volunteers are needed from 5:00 to 7:30 on Monday and Thursday evenings, 8:00 to 11:00 Wednesday mornings and 12:00 to 2:00 Wednesday afternoons. For individuals who are receiving their Medical Interpreter Certification, this is a great way to gain experience. Volunteer schedules are flexible -- you sign up for the evenings that fit your needs -- but we do need you to be timely and dependable. Experience working with low-income and minority populations desired.
