United Way Connects the Community to Volunteer Opportunities

(August 28, 2013)—United Way in Waukesha County would like to invite volunteers to the following volunteer opportunities:

Apple Harvest Festival, Waukesha

Retzer Nature Center's "Apple Harvest Festival" is held September 21, 2013. Volunteers are needed at this fun family festival to assist in the Apple Market area to help customers with packaging and purchasing of apples, including distribution and labeling of bags and collecting money/making change. Three volunteer shifts are available: 8:30am-12:00pm, 11:30am-2:30 pm, and 2:00-5:30pm. Training will be provided on site at start of shift. Dress for weather conditions, as this is an outdoor event. Event is held rain or shine, so please report regardless of weather conditions. All volunteers receive free admission into the festival! Requirements: Volunteers must be able to stand for long periods of time.

Honey Bee Picnic Volunteers, Elm Grove

Come see what the buzz is about at School Sisters of Notre Dame. Community Care Inc. is hosting its annual Honey Bee Picnic for their participants at School Sisters of Notre Dame. Volunteers will help serve lunch, hand out drinks, and run games. Our picnic is Thursday, September 12, 2013. Volunteers are needed from 11:30am-2:00pm. Volunteers must be a minimum of 16 years old, social and mature with a desire to help others.

Southeast Wisconsin Festival of Books Information & Presentation Room Volunteers, Waukesha

Volunteers are needed for the fourth annual Southeast Wisconsin Festival of Books, which will be held on Friday, Saturday, & Sunday, September 20, 21, 22, 2013, at UW-Waukesha, 1500 N University Drive. More than 100 authors of adult and children’s books will bring their talents to this celebration of literacy and the arts, providing talks, readings, and panel discussions on topics that include poetry, mystery, science fiction, history, nature, and much more. Music and drama performances, exhibits, and book-signings will add to the festivity! This free Festival is sponsored by the UW-Waukesha Foundation in cooperation with a variety of area organizations and is presented by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Needed are 20 "Information Volunteers" who will welcome attendees and provide information about presentations and locations. Also needed are at least 20 "Presentation Room Volunteers" who sit in on the individual sessions and welcome people, collect evaluations, and count the number of people attending.

Special Event Assistant, Waukesha

Friday, September 13, 2013 is St. Joseph’s Medical Clinic’s annual fundraiser being held at La Casa de Esperanza and we need many people to make this another special event for our guests. Volunteers will help with registration, silent auction and event closing activities. We have a number of different shifts that are available from 2:00pm to 9:00pm. We do ask for a minimum of a 2 hour shift. Requirements: Must be 16 years or older.
