United Way Connects the Community to Volunteer Opportunities

(December 4, 2013)—United Way in Waukesha County would like to invite volunteers to the following volunteer opportunities:

Sweetheart Dance - Oconomowoc

On February 15 from 4:30-9:00, 20 volunteers are needed to help with a Sweetheart dance. This evening is geared towards kids age 10 and younger, as well as their families. It will include a DJ, bounce house, crafts, cake walk, and much more. Volunteers are needed to help with these activities. Volunteers should be high school aged or older.

Special Needs Teacher’s Assistant – Menomonee Falls

Are you passionate about working with children with special needs? If so, please come join the team at Children’s Community Center. Children’s Community Center is a full inclusion preschool and childcare center located in Menomonee Falls. As a full inclusion center we are looking for adults to volunteer in our classrooms to help provide a one on one opportunity for a child with special needs. Often, when children with special needs receive one on one time they are better able to get their needs met and be successful throughout their day. As a volunteer some of your responsibilities would include: playing with children, helping a child to complete an activity, interacting with the child at circle time, encouraging participation in gross motor activities, assisting with snack or meal time, or providing a break for a child.

What’s Cookin’ Event - Waukesha

Be a Girl Scout Event Volunteer and share your passion, have fun, and positively impact girls' lives. Activities are already created and materials provided. Assist or lead a group of 15-20 girls grades 2-3. It’s a culinary adventure. Create smart and tasty snacks to enjoy and learn the basics of the kitchen along the way. Volunteers must be a minimum age of 18 years old. All volunteers must complete a brief application and background check.

Providing Lifesaving Rides for Cancer Patients – Waukesha County

In an effort to offer women resources in the fight against breast cancer, the American Cancer Society and Kohl's Cares have partnered to provide the Society's Road to Recovery program in Waukesha County. If you have a few hours available Monday-Friday between 7am-5pm during the month, you can volunteer for this lifesaving program! Volunteer drivers donate their time and the use of their vehicle to take patients to treatment related appointments. They also provide encouragement and support. Volunteers must have a good driving record, a valid driver’s license, a serviceable car with seatbelts and adequate insurance coverage. Drivers must respond to all patient ride requests in a timely fashion and follow through on all commitments.
