United Way Connects the Community to Volunteer Opportunities

(February 5, 2014)—United Way in Waukesha County would like to invite volunteers to the following volunteer opportunities:

Volunteer Driver for Seniors and Disabled Adults – Waukesha or New Berlin
Volunteers are needed to help transport a senior or an adult with a disability who cannot drive to the doctor, grocery store, bank or pharmacy due to physical limitations. Your time and smile will be so very appreciated by the client you are helping out. Dates and times vary, based on the client's needs. You tell us your schedule and preferred community, and we will only call you for those clients and times that match! This opportunity is perfect for those volunteers who aren't interested in leading a fundraiser, but prefer to make a quiet difference in the life of someone who needs help. Volunteers must be a minimum of 18 years old, must have own transportation, valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance.

Taste of Spring - Waukesha
Be a Girl Scout Event Volunteer and share your passion, have fun, and positively impact girls' lives. Activities are already created and materials provided. Assist or lead a group of 15-20 girls grades K-1. Hit the trail and discover the signs and tastes of spring. Assist girls as they hike in the woods, tap a maple tree and enjoy real maple syrup on pancakes. Events may require additional set up and clean up time, beyond the scheduled event. Staff will provide a detailed confirmation prior to the event. Volunteers must be a minimum age of 18 years old. All volunteers must complete a brief application and background check. Event sessions on March 15th.

Communications Intern/Volunteer - Waukesha
The Communications Intern will be responsible for coordinating various volunteer engagement events and projects as well as promoting volunteer opportunities throughout Waukesha County. The use of marketing and communication skills is essential for this position as this intern will be working with many United Way partners, individuals, and companies in Waukesha County. Create and distribute weekly press releases which market volunteer opportunities to community, lead communication with community volunteers, and a variety of other helpful tasks. Gain significant, direct experience working with local companies, nonprofits, and individuals while helping give back to the community.

Financial Fitness 101 – Pewaukee
We are proud to announce the 8th Annual "Financial Fitness 101" event for School District of Waukesha students. This activity provides students the opportunity to apply their budgeting skills and test their financial literacy. We anticipate over 350 high school students participating through a rotation schedule. You and your company will have the opportunity to engage, inform and discuss the financial realities of being a consumer in a hands-on, interactive situation. We invite you and/or your business to participate in this "reality store" to help shape a student's financial future. Financial Fitness 101 will be held at the RTA Center at WCTC, 800 Main Street, Pewaukee, WI on Friday, March 14, 2014. We are asking our volunteers to arrive by 7:30 to be ready for the first group who will arrive at 7:45 and enter the "reality store" at 8:00. The last group will depart by 2:30. If you are able to volunteer the entire day, that is wonderful. However, if you are available for a portion of the day, we would still love to have you!
