United Way Connects the Community to Volunteer Opportunities

(February 19, 2014)—United Way in Waukesha County would like to invite volunteers to the following volunteer opportunities:

Goodwill Sale at Boston Store: Donation Attendant - Waukesha
Help make the Goodwill Sale at the Boston Stores a success! Volunteers are needed to accept donations from customers who bring in their gently used clothing and household linens. The sale is scheduled for March 13th – 29th. Sign up early and choose your shift and location! This event greatly benefits Goodwill by dramatically increasing the pounds of textiles donated to our Retail Store and Donation Centers which in turn supports programs and services for persons having disabilities and other barriers to employment. Minimum age is 13 years and older. Volunteers need to be friendly and polite towards customers and capable of some physical activity such as lifting bags and reaching/bending to place the donations in the receptacles.

Needed: Muscles and a Truck! - Waukesha
Often we receive calls from people who have large items that they would like to donate to Habitat for Humanity to sell in our ReStore. We are looking for someone who has a truck and a few helpers who would be willing to pick up these items and drop them off at a warehouse so they are all set to go when the ReStore opens. We are also looking for additional donated space to hold our items and someone willing to donate the use of their truck for occasional pick up of large items until we can purchase a vehicle of our own.
Volunteer Manager Intern - HartlandAs the Volunteer Management Intern you will gain valuable experience learning about the planning and execution of fundraising events by working closely with the logistics, development, and volunteer management teams. You will assist in coordinating event logistics, finalizing event preparations, researching event venues and providing volunteer trainings. You will have opportunities to research organizations to recruit volunteers, a critical element of event planning and will work to coordinate volunteer schedules. You will also have the opportunity to observe staff and learn how they coordinate with sponsors, participants and donors to plan and execute multiple large-scale events. Timing of the internship will be a fixed duration contingent on the student’s schedule and needs. The applicant must have excellent customer service skills and be detail-oriented and organized. Time management and planning skills are a must! Must be available to work events taking place on Saturdays and/or Sundays and have a valid driver’s license.

Donor Relation/Advocacy Intern – Hartland
Be a Girl Scout Event Volunteer and share your passion, have fun, and positively impact girls' lives. Activities are already created and materials provided. Assist or lead a group of 15-20 girls grades K-1. Birds of a feather stick together. Girls discover what kind of bird they are and what makes them soar. Assist girls as they listen to birds, share their stories and decorate a mosaic birdbath. Event sessions take place on Saturday, April 5th.
