United Way Connects the Community to Volunteer Opportunities

(January 8, 2014)—United Way in Waukesha County would like to invite volunteers to the following volunteer opportunities:

Lobby Organizer/Greeter - Summit
A lobby organizer is for someone looking to have patient interaction and be mobile throughout the facility. Volunteer will straighten up all waiting areas, visit with the patients in those areas and assist in returning wheelchairs to their rightful place. Mon-Fri 8a.m.-5p.m. Must be a minimum of 16 years old and complete full application process. Volunteers also need to be able to stand (with short breaks) for the duration of their shift (between 3-4 hours) and physically be able to push patients in wheelchairs.

Computer Lab Helper - Waukesha
Work one on one or lead group training for individuals at a men’s shelter who have little computer experience. The students are mostly seeking competitive employment. Training to include: how to establish an e-mail account, develop a resume using MS Word, and conducting an Internet job search. Seeking a weekday volunteer on a weekly or bi-weekly basis from 9:00-11:00am. Minimum age is 18 years old. Volunteers will experience a diverse population and be able to provide one-on-one training as well as group instruction. Volunteer application including background check will be required.

Arts and Crafts - Waukesha
Do you enjoy being creative? Do you have a hobby that you would like to share with others? Do you enjoy making things? If you said yes to any of these questions, then volunteering at Richard's Place is the answer! Shelter is looking for a fun, energetic person to volunteer their time to make crafts, paint, draw and many other things with our residents. If you love to make things, don't hesitate to learn more!

Grocery Shop With or For a Senior - Waukesha
Volunteers are needed to help seniors and/or adults with disabilities with grocery shopping. Volunteers can either shop for or shop with a client. Dates and times can be arranged directly with clients based on mutual availability. Clients prepare their shopping lists ahead of time, and volunteers will shop for those who cannot get out, or accompany those who can do their shopping but need a little assistance. Volunteers assist in bringing groceries into the home, and helping to put the groceries away. Volunteers must have their own transportation and if transporting a client, proof of valid driver's license and auto insurance.

Greek Goddess Event - Waukesha
Be a Girl Scout Event Volunteer and share your passion, have fun, and positively impact girls' lives. Activities are already created and materials provided. Assist or lead a group of 15-20 girls grades 4-5. Travel back in time to ancient Greece and the Olympic games. Fashion a toga and strap on your sandals to experience daily life through stories, food, art, and the games. Two sessions are available on January 18th. Events may require additional set up and clean up time, beyond the scheduled event. Staff will provide a detailed confirmation prior to the event. Volunteers must be a minimum age of 18 years old. All volunteers must complete a brief application and background check.
