United Way Connects the Community to Volunteer Opportunities

(May 14, 2014)—United Way in Waukesha County would like to invite volunteers to the following volunteer opportunities:

Carl Zach Cycling Classic - Waukesha

June 22 is the Annual Carl Zach Cycling Classic in downtown Waukesha. Help is needed to keep the racers and pedestrians safe. Volunteer intersection safety patrol personnel are needed to help pedestrians cross the city streets during the gaps in the race. All the volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and have good safety awareness. Each shift is 2 hours long and instruction will be provided the day of the race.

Wag Fest Volunteers - Brookfield

Wag Fest is well-known and attracts over 5,000 attendees and pets from throughout Southeastern Wisconsin. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, September 6th, from 11am-5pm at Mitchell Park in Brookfield. We are in need of nearly 100 volunteers for the entire event, including set up the day before, help the day of: before, during, and after the event. There are a wide range of volunteer opportunities including, but not limited to vendor registration, lure course, selling raffle tickets, security, selling beverages/food, clean up party and much more!

Meal Delivery Drivers – Waukesha County

We need delivery drivers for the residents in the city of Waukesha. Meals are prepared at Waukesha Memorial Hospital Monday through Friday. Drivers then pick up the meals between 10:45-11:00. Routes average between 7-10 miles.

Please help the disabled, convalescent, and individuals unable to prepare their own meals stay in their homes and live independently. Deliveries are made from 11:00-12:30. It is a very rewarding opportunity to help others in the community!

Mentoring – Waukesha County

Did you know that you can change a life for the better, forever? If you have a couple hours a week, you can! With hundreds of children ages 6 to 15 who face adversity on our waiting list in Milwaukee and Waukesha counties, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee is actively seeking new volunteers. No experience is required. All volunteers must go through a thorough screening process which includes a formal application, layered criminal background screening, references checks and an in-person interview. We ask for a minimum two-year relationship and the availability to meet with the child on a weekly basis
