United Way Connects the Community to Volunteer Opportunities

(July 25, 2013)—United Way in Waukesha County would like to invite volunteers to the following volunteer opportunities:

Fall Plant Sale Preparation Help, Waukesha County Parks, Waukesha

Volunteers are needed on Saturday, August 24th to help prepare for the fall plant sale at Retzer Nature Center. Help our naturalists move plants and get them in position for the plant sale the following day. This position will involve the bending and lifting of plants. Requirements: Volunteers must be able to bend a lift plants and should be able to lift at least 20 lbs.

Volunteers Needed at Wisconsin State Outdoor Sports Tournament, Special Olympics, Waukesha

Volunteers are needed to escort athletes, present awards and more at the first-ever Special Olympics Wisconsin State Outdoor Sports Tournament held in Waukesha on August 3-4, 2013! Nearly 1,000 athletes will compete in tennis, bocce, golf, softball and tee ball at Carroll University, the Moor Downs Golf Course, and the Saratoga Softball Complex! Volunteers receive a free T-shirt and will witness how Special Olympics reveals the champion in all of us. A variety of volunteer shifts are available and those working a full day will receive a complimentary lunch. Community Representative, The Wisconsin Philharmonic Waukesha

The Wisconsin Philharmonic is in search of community representatives who would distribute posters and brochures throughout their communities 7-8 times in the year. All posters and brochures would be picked up from The Wisconsin Philharmonic office in downtown Waukesha. A list of businesses and community locations would be provided per community. The following communities would be covered by 1-2 volunteers: Brookfield, Delafield, Dousman, Elm Grove, Hartland, Mukwonago, Nashotah, New Berlin, Oconomowoc, Pewaukee, Wauwatosa, and Waukesha. Each poster distribution would take 1-2 hours, but would need to be completed in the time period listed below. Poster and brochure distribution would occur July 24-31, August 26-30, September 23-27, October 24-31, November 25-29, February 3-7, February 24-28, April 1-4, and May 19-23.
