United Way Connects the Community to Volunteer Opportunities
(May 24, 2013) – Waukesha, WI – United Way in Waukesha County would like to invite volunteers to the following opportunities:  

Camp Counselor - Association for the Rights of Citizens with handicaps, Menomonee Falls

Volunteer this summer by helping children and adults with disabilities! We are currently looking for talented, compassionate, and dedicated individuals who would love to spend their summer swimming, kayaking, playing, singing, dancing, fishing, gardening, cooking, crafting, laughing, and helping others, all while being in the great outdoors. Most importantly, they should also have an interest in making a difference in their community and in the lives of our campers and their families! ARCh Camp Pow Wow is a summer camp experience for kids and adults with a wide range of disabilities. We are currently hiring for Lifeguards, Nurses (R.N. or B.S.N.), Instructors (Arts and Crafts, Music, Recreation, and Life Experiences), Counselors (age 18+), and Junior Counselors (age 16 - 17).

Electrician - Parents Place, Waukesha

Share your electrician skills! An experienced person, willing to be called for occasional electrical repairs, is needed. We're looking for an adult with knowledge and experience in small electrical repairs. Duties may include: fixing fluorescent light fixtures, repairing indoor exit signs, etc. Requirements: Volunteers must be a minimum of 18 years old. You will need to bring your own tools and ladder (If necessary). A criminal background check is required.

Fight Blood Cancer! Scenic Shore 150 Bike Tour – The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society – WI Chapter, Various Locations

The Scenic Shore 150 Bike Tour will take place on Saturday, July 20 & Sunday, July 21, 2013. The purpose of this event is to raise funds to find cures for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and to improve the quality of life for patients and their families. We are looking for volunteers to help with food service, loading and unloading luggage, parking assistance, traffic control, rest stop support & more! On Saturday, July 20, the Scenic Shore 150 Bike Tour begins in Mequon at MATC-North Campus and ends in Manitowoc at UW-Manitowoc. There are several volunteer opportunities available in Mequon and Manitowoc, as well as the rest stop sites along the way including, Port Washington, Belgium, Oostburg, Sheboygan (lunch is served to riders here), Plymouth and Cleveland.  On Sunday, July 21, the bike tour begins in Manitowoc at UW-Manitowoc and ends in Sunset Park in Sturgeon Bay, Door County. There are volunteer opportunities available in Manitowoc and Sturgeon Bay, as well as the rest stop sites along the way including, Two Rivers, Two Creeks, Kewaunee and Alogoma (lunch is served to riders here).

 

Be Part of an Emergency Preparedness Event – Interfaith Senior Programs, Oconomowoc

Be part of an important learning exercise for life-serving personnel in Waukesha County on June 8th. ProHealth Care is seeking "victim volunteers." Starting at Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital, you will be "moulaged" and prepared for the event, then taken by bus to Lac La Belle, where you will be transferred by ambulance or bus to one of three participating hospitals. What a fascinating way to spend a Saturday morning in June! "Victims" should plan to wear old clothes that could be stained, ripped or torn from the exercise. Participants should bring a spare set of clothes.
