On the Beat at Blizzard Brawl 9

Once again, my nephew and I had front row seats as GLCW (Great Lakes Championship Wrestling) blew the roof off of the Waukesha County Expo Center.  Blizzard Brawl just keeps getting better every year.

Blizzard Brawl 9, a benefit show for Cystic Fibrosis, featured appearances by several wrestling legends, an auction of cool wrestling items and seven exciting matches.  Also, WWE Hall of Famer Ron Simmons, the first African-American heavyweight champ, recieved a lifetime achivement award.

The crowd started arriving well before the doors opened.  Fans traded wrestling memories as they waited in the lines to meet their favorite wrestling legends.  The legends were all friendly and very happy to pose with fans for photo after photo.

We were really excited about meeting Simmons for the first time.  Other first timers for us included Hurricane Shane Helms, Joseph Park, Ken Anderson and Howard Finkel.  Finkel provided the surprise of the night by telling me he was excited about meeting me, whom he called "a celeb" from all of my appearances on the web.

We had already met a few of the stars (Matt Hardy, Reby Sky, Al Snow and Demolition), but it is always nice to see them again.  Snow obliged us with his usual interesting photo.  It is also fun to see our favorite independent wrestling stars, like Chazz Moretti, Melanie Cruise and Ruff Crossing.

The in-ring action was excellent, too.  GLCW Ladies champ Serena Deeb beat Melanie Cruise in a "match of the night" candidate.  GLCW Heavyweight champ Snow beat Park in a match that had at least three different referees involved.  Anderson defeated Hardy and Helms in an action-filled legends match.  It was great to see three such stars actually wrestle instead of the dancing around like I see for some legends matches.

All of this makes for a great night of entertainment.  It should be of no surprise.  David Herro is the creative genius behind all of this and he is simply one of the nicest guys you could meet.  He cares for the fans and demands that the shows are nothing but the best.

Every year, I make the 90 minute trip from Chicago for Blizzard Brawl.  Every year, I see so many of my Chicago-area friends there, too.  Blizzard Brawl and David Herro (and his son Kal) are real winners...and so are the thousands of us in attendance!
