One man's trash is another man's treasure...

Check out these websites for new options of recycling items in our area such as plants, household items and pretty much anything you have lying around!

I feel like I am always 'Spring Cleaning' no matter what time of year it is. This always finds me with extra items to get rid of, donate or toss.

We are very fortunate to have places like Goodwill, St. Vincent's, or Salvation Army to be able to donate used unwanted items to. But there are always things around the house that you can't bring to these places or you just can't find the time to take them.

In Waukesha, we have a couple more options you may not know of...

1. FREECYCLE.ORG

The goal of Freecycle is to "reduce waste by providing an alternative to sending unneeded, but still usable items to the landfill.Β  Freecycle is the place to find a home for your unwanted (but still usable!) furniture, clothing, building materials, computers, and all those other things that clutter our basements and garages."

Sound interesting? It is easy to join and best of all FREE! You have the option to get a daily message or weekly. (I prefer daily, because things that are posted tend to get picked up fast!)

I have responded to posts and have recieved tomato cages, back issues of magazines, brand new shoes, new paint, as well as perenials.

If there is something that you need, you can post that too..."Looking for Tomato plants" or "Looking for old sprinkler" etc. I have 'asked for' a dehydrator and was lucky enough to have someone respond and give me one they had sitting around and never have used!

Help keep our excess out of landfills and check out this group!

2. PLANT CATCHING

http://plantcatching.com/en

This second website is a place where you can enter your location and find other gardeners in the area who have excess seeds, plants, bulbs, soil, etc.Β

Although right now there are no 'plants to catch' in our area yet, I am hoping by sharing this, I can get the word out and get this started in our area! It is always nice to connect and share with people who are interested in the same things you are!

Have you ever heard of either of these sites before? Have you used Freecycle? I would love to hear what kinds of experiences you have had and what treasures you have found or gave away!

Cheers!
