Good Friend's Holiday Drop 'N Shop

At least seven home-based businesswomen and one woodworking gentleman will showcase their wares, from hand-painted pottery to skincare products, on Sunday, Nov. 20th, from 2:30 to 5 p.m., in the Community Room at Steinhafels, W231 N1013 County Rd.F, Waukesha. One quarter of their proceeds will be donated to Good Friend, Inc. (GFI) — a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to creating autism awareness, teaching acceptance of differences, and fostering empathy for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) among their typically-developing peers.

Co-founders Denise Schamens (Brookfield) and Chelsea Budde (Waukesha) are promising a “girls day out” atmosphere at Good Friend’s Holiday Drop’n Shop, complete with refreshments, mini-massages, and door prizes. “Not everyone likes the hustle and bustle of post-Thanksgiving shopping,” Schamens noted. “We want to showcase area entrepreneurs in a relaxed, casual setting where ladies can shop for holiday gifts with a double helping of ‘good’. They’ll be doing good and having a good time — maybe even with a good friend or two!”

Confirmed vendors include Lia Sophia, Pampered Chef, PartyLite, Pepper it Up, Tastefully Simple, Tupperware, and Uppercase Living. Additional businesses may be represented. Hand-tied fleece blankets will also be available for sale. Check the Facebook Event page (Good Friend’s Holiday Drop’n Shop) for updates.

Autism, a neuro-biological disorder diagnosed in 1% of children in the U.S. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2009), is prevalent in school settings. GFI’s services mitigate the difficulties by explaining autism spectrum disorder in age-appropriate, user-friendly terminology, thereby providing the foundation for social support desperately needed by children with ASD.

There is no admission fee or obligation to buy. For more information, visit www.goodfriendinc.com, or call Denise at 262-391-1369.
