A 32-year-old man who was shot and robbed in Costa Rica while on vacation remains stuck in that country, and his family from Waukesha is seeking the help of President Barack Obama to bring him home.

As reported by Patch's media partners at WISN 12 News, Brookfield's Steve Flesch was in the Central American country when he was robbed by three juveniles and two adults, who shot him in the head.

However, Flesch's family says he has been lying in a hospital bed in Costa Rica for more than a month, and the family cannot get him released.

Nikki Lannert of Waukesha, Flesch's sister, said the hospital won't release him because his passport was taken in the robbery. And they can't get any cooperation from the U.S. Embassy. So, now the family is asking Obama to help.

Flesch, 32, works as a caddy at the Erin Hills Golf Course in Richfield, which is trying to organize a fundraiser to help pay for the cost of bring him home once he gets permission to leave.
