Every Thursday at , a group of students from all grades willingly give up their recess in order to read in the library.
Rose Palmer, an instructional resource teacher at Hawthorne, said around 50 kids have signed up, and more are on a waiting list for next year.
"Kids are just begging to do this," Palmer said. "How often do kids want to give up their recess to read?"
The children read with adult volunteers from RSVP through Interfaith Senior Programs and from Carroll University.
