Severe Weather Alert: Tornado/Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Second Straight Day

Stubborn system creates conditions for severe weather throughout much of the state, as well as air quality problems.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has again issued a tornado and a severe thunderstorm watch for the entire southern half of the state of Wisconsin.  The watch has been issued through 7 p.m. Thursday evening.

Yesterday, severe weather prompted reports of large hail from areas in Jefferson County, some unconfirmed reports seeing softball-sized hail.  Locally, there were only brief downpours.

However, the passage of a slow-moving front has again created ideal conditions for the development of strong to severe storms, with some possessing the ability to produce tornados, according to the NWS.  In addition, conditions have also created the need for an air quality advisory, which is in effect until 8 p.m.
