Friends and family gathered Wednesday afternoon to pay their final respects to , who was killed Feb. 20
Hidalgo, a platoon leader who would have celebrated his 25th birthday on Friday, was fatally wounded after being attacked by insurgents with an improvised explosive device.
Hidalgo's parents, Jorge and Andrea, were presented the Bronze Star and Purple Heart to honor Hidalgo's sacrifice.
