Private Lot Charging $1 for Parking at Farmers' Market, Friday Night Live

Private lot is being used by area non-profit groups as a fundraising opportunity.

The parking lots on the east side of the Riverfront Plaza are private lots and a fee will be charged to park on the property during Freeman Friday Night Live and the Waukesha Farmers’ Market this summer.

The parking lots are owned by Berg Management, who will allow area non-profit agencies to charge $1 to park in the lot as a fundraiser, according to a news release from Berg Management.

“By allowing local non-profits to manage the lots as a fundraiser, it becomes a win-win for the community,” the news release states.

The public street ends at the light located at Clinton and Broadway. On the Barstow side of the parking lot, the public street ends at the intersection of Mary Street and Bank Street (formerly named Cherry St.), according to the news release.

Waukesha South High School’s cheerleaders were among the groups using the lot as a fundraising opportunity.

“The parking lot fundraiser was successful for the spirit program at Waukesha South High School,” Waukesha South cheerleading coach Amanda Knops said in the news release. “The cheerleaders not only earned money for their program, but they learned about cash handling, provided a service to their community, and shared a smiling face.”

This year, Berg Management looks forward to partnering with a few of the local churches as they support different community service agencies. Fox River Christian Church will fundraise for the Waukesha Food Pantry, the Salvation Army, and the Hope Center with their Second Saturday team. The Backpack Coalition provides school supplies for many children across the district and will take a turn in the parking lot in June.

The contribution of a dollar per vehicle for parking is small but added up greatly for these and other groups. Over the summer, downtown visitors will have the chance to support many groups.
