Lanes, Ramps Soon Open in Waukesha County Freeway Construction

DOT says all lanes and ramps should be open by Tuesday morning rush hour.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will re-open all lanes and ramps on eastbound and westbound Interstate-94 in Waukesha County from the Milwaukee County line to Highway 16 in time for the Tuesday morning rush hour, meeting a significant milestone on the resurfacing project, according to a news release from the DOT.

“We appreciate the patience of motorists and businesses during this project,” said Bob Gutierrez, WisDOT construction chief, in the news release. “Our contractors and crews have done an outstanding job meeting the extremely aggressive schedule.”

Crews opened the I-94 westbound lanes and ramps from 27th Street to 70th Street early Friday night.  In order to maintain public safety and maximize conditions for workers, the Waukesha County lane closures remained in effect over the weekend, the release states.

The contractor, Zignego Companies, will begin operations to remove lane restrictions following Monday evening’s rush hour.

Some nighttime lane and ramp restrictions will be required for finishing landscaping, ramp surfacing, drainage improvements and bridge repairs through the end of the summer. Work will also continue on Moorland Road and 27th Street, the release states.
