Fox River Flood Watch Ending Thursday in Waukesha [UPDATED]

While the Fox River has flood its banks at Bethesda Park, the flood watch in Waukesha will be canceled at 9 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

While the Fox River has flooded parks in Waukesha like Bethesda and Frame, the flood watch in Waukesha is coming to an end at 9 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

The river is high and has reached over the banks at Bethesda Park. Rain on Wednesday worsened the situation, however, the National Weather Service is predicting a maximum of another 3/4 inches of rain fall by the end of the day.

The flood watch went into effect Wednesday afternoon. It was expected to be canceled Friday morning, but is now being canceled 10 hours early, according to the National Weather Service.

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Specifically, officials are watching the Rock, Fox and Milwaukee rivers as localized flooding caused concerns last week. The additional rain may be coming as the ground is thawed, but is still saturated.

Waukesha was under a flood warning last week when the Fox River reached levels beyond 6 feet, flooding portions of the riverwalk in downtown Waukesha.

Wisconsin Emergency Management has more than 500,000 sandbags ready to go in Waukesha, Green Lake and Buffalo counties if flooding worsens, according to a news release from WEM.
