Educational Fun at the Waukesha County Airport

Wings Over Waukesha will showcase planes and pilots.

On August 27 and 28, the third annual Wings Over Waukesha will take place at the Waukesha Country Airport from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

The last two years, it took place in June but is being moved to August. This is due to rainy weather in the past as well as availability of participants and aircrafts, according to Tracy Shilobrit, President of Strate Vantage Communications, LLC, who handles PR for the event.

Many of the pilots also participate in air shows all over the country so this year they are making sure that all of the aircrafts are based in Waukesha will be there as a lot of events occur in June.

Shilobrit said that almost all of the aircrafts will be local and will date back to World War II.

“It’s a nice family event and it’s honoring our military veterans, particularly those who have been taking care of us from the air, both past and present,” Shilobrit said.

It's a nice family event that will entertain as well as educate. Those in attendance will get the chance to learn about the aircrafts as well as talk to the pilots. Admission is $5 and air shows will take place on each of the days at 11 a.m.  –Local Pilot, 1 p.m. – Skydivers, 1:30 p.m.  – World War II War Birds and 2:30 p.m. – Modern Military Aircraft.

The event was started by what Shilobrit called “aviation enthusiasts.” It raises funds for the Experimental Aircraft Association’s scholarship fund as well as other charities. Volunteers and sponsors are still needed. To express interest contact wingsoverwaukesha@gmail.com.
