O K L A H O M A!

Sing it, Andrew! And the rest of y'all, too - O K L A H O M A! Playing at the Waukesha Civic Theatre March 8-24, 2013. This classic and endearing musical comedy is fun for the whole family.

I'm sure having just read the title; your mind sang that song.  Or, perhaps you came right out and sang it.  The last time I worked the box office at Waukesha Civic Theatre, (WCT), I answered the phone and that's exactly what the patron did.  No hello.  He just sang the word.  Made me laugh! This musical comedy does that; makes one want to laugh and sing right along with it.

Oklahoma! March 8-24, 2013, with the expertiese of John Cramer, Director and WCT's Managing Artistic Director, and Kelly Krause, Stage Manager; promises to put a smile on your face featuring enduring favorites like, "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'," "I Cain't Say No," "Surrey With the Fringe on Top," and of course the title song.

"Set in Oklahoma Territory in 1906, this is the story of Curly and Laurey, a handsome cowboy and a romantic farm girl.  Through misunderstandings, jealousy, aspirations, and fears, love triumphs for Curly and Laurey in the brand new state of Oklahoma!"

Along with Curley and Laurey there are other memorable characters, accompanied by a full and talented cast and crew, telling the tale.  It's an honor and privilege to be a part of this endearing show.  And making it even more special?  This year marks the 70th anniversary of the first Rodgers and Hammerstein collaboration.

Like the hard-working and dedicated Oklahoma! folks of 1906; those who endured many hardships together; we've weathered our own including winter storms and health issues over the past several weeks.  This cast with its varied ages, walks of life, personalities, and theatre experience truly pulled together to bring Oklahoma! to life.  Too, the wonderful thing for a cast this size is, except for a few child skirmishes, there's been no drama during the drama.  Yeow!  I asked a few people backstage what they thought.  They agreed. . .

"The level of dedication in this cast is astounding."

"This is simply fantastic.  Even late comers to the cast were welcomed into the WCT family."

"It's amazing to be in the cast and watch it go from the first rehearsal to opening night.  The magic of theatre comes out and it is extraordinary.  It's been lots of hard work and long hours, but it's worth it!"

"I can't thank the cast, crew, and staff enough for all of their hard work, patience, creativity and humor.  We have had a marvelous time putting this incredible show together. . ."
