Thank You Veterans

Veterans Day began as a day of remembrance for service members serving during the First World War.  The “Great War” was the “War to End All Wars.”  Between 1917 and 1918, the US alone suffered 320,000 casualties.

The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month 1918 an armistice between Germany and the Allied nations became effective.  The next year November 11 was officially proclaimed Armistice Day.

Unfortunately, the Great War did not end all wars.  Since the first Armistice Day 1919, the United States remembers over one million war casualties, including nearly 400,000 combat deaths.

Today we remember sacrifices by our brave service men and women.  We thank military personnel defending freedom overseas and at home, and we honor the fallen.

Veterans Day reminds us our differences may be petty, and that we are very fortunate and owe an indescribable amount of appreciation to the brave men and women willing to fight and die to protect our freedom.  Members of the US military are deployed outside the United States in more than 150 countries.  They are deployed to ensure that our country and the world is a safer place.  Today, we remember, display respect, and appreciate the immense sacrifice our military personnel gave us and continue to provide us.
