Senate Approves Wisconsin Workers Win Program

Madison- State Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) released the following statement after the State Senate unanimously approved Senate Bill 332 (SB 332) continuing the Wisconsin Workers Win (W3) pilot program created during March 2012.

“This bill is a win for Wisconsin workers,” said Lazich.  “We are providing unemployed people skills they need to make a speedy return to the workforce.”

The pilot program connects workers to jobs during the first 20 weeks of the worker’s unemployment.  Unemployed workers receive training with a full time employment goal.

“The program is a win-win for workers and employers.  Workers get skills to secure a job, while employers get a skilled workforce in order to keep up with demand and grow their business and our economy.”

SB 332 allows continuation of a pilot program for two years in three high unemployment geographic areas.  The bill provides people trained with the W3 program are exempt from work search requirements, and the amount of training time is increased to 40 hours per week.
