COUSINS SUBS® AWARDS $2,000 SCHOLARSHIP TO AUDREY ADLER OF OCONOMOWOC, WIS.

Milwaukee-based Cousins Subs® honored four high school seniors with $14,000 in scholarships as part of its second annual Wisconsin Sports Awards Scholarship Contest (WSASC). Audrey Adler is the runner-up of the two female finalists, receiving a $2,000 scholarship.

Audrey is a twelve-letter varsity athlete and captain of the Oconomowoc High School tennis, ski racing and soccer teams. She was one of two freshmen to make the varsity soccer team and quickly became co-captain. Audrey has given tennis and soccer lessons to youth in the area, taught at the NuGenesis Community Garden, volunteered with the Special Olympics at the YMCA and run her own business restringing tennis rackets for local players.

Audrey maintained a 4.198 GPA throughout her four years at Oconomowoc High School. She aspires to become a neurosurgical physician, developing an interest in the treatment of brain injuries after watching her younger sister suffer through a series of debilitating concussions. She has been accepted to the University of Denver, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Wisconsin – Madison. 

“All the hard work I put into academics, athletics and community service throughout high school was worth it if it meant receiving this opportunity,” said Audrey. “The generosity and support from the Cousins Subs team motivates my pursuit of future endeavors knowing that hard work really does pay off. Additionally, the memories from the Wisconsin Sports Awards will be some of those never forgotten.” 

Cousins Subs also awarded two $5,000 grand prize scholarships to Adam Vechart of Menomonee Falls and Cecilia “CeAnna” Soper of Hartland, as well as another $2,000 scholarship prize to Trey Horbinski of Necedah. The winners were honored at the GKB Events Wisconsin Sports Awards on Thursday, April 24th at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE).     

The scholarships were funded through Cousins Subs’ Make It Better Foundation, a nonprofit charitable organization established by Cousins Subs in 2013. The Make It Better Foundation addresses three areas of interest that are vital to any community: health and wellness, hunger and youth education. 

“Cousins Subs strongly believes in serving and giving back to the communities where we operate,” said Justin McCoy, vice president of marketing at Cousins Subs. “Health, wellness and youth education are the pillars of our foundation, and all of this year’s WSASC recipients excel in these areas.” 

More than 800 applications were received from high school senior athletes throughout the state of Wisconsin.  

“We’re pleased with the growing level of interest in our scholarship contest and we’re more than impressed by the collective achievements of this year’s applicants,” McCoy continued. “The most difficult job has proven to be identifying the four finalists from all of the inspiring young people who apply.”
