Walgreens, Aldi Development Resurfaces in Town of Waukesha

Despite controversy and neighborhood frustrations, a Town of Waukesha Walgreens and Aldi may locate on the west end of Sunset Drive.

Resurrected plans for a controversial Walgreens and Aldi development along Sunset Drive in the Town of Waukesha could move forward Thursday evening as the Plan Commission and Town Board consider approving the businesses’ operating plans from developer MRED-Cummings.

The development is planned for the southwest corner of Sunset Drive and West St. Paul Avenue just south of the Fox Run Shopping Center.

“The rezoning and site plan unique to this development have been approved. The proposed retail operation is appropriate for the site, the hours of operation are  appropriate, the parking demand is satisfied and there is no proposed change to either the building or intended operation since gaining town approval at the June Plan Commission meeting,” states a letter from zoning administrator Roger Dupler to the Plan Commission.

The four-acre development will bring 45 to 50 jobs to the property, according to Waukesha Now.

The project’s been in the works for years and the developers were blocked by the town in 2012. After the developers were turned down, they unsuccessfully attempted to annex the property into the City of Waukesha.

City staff members had concerns that the commercial development would have negative impacts on the residential properties in the town.
