Spancrete to Close Permanently in Waukesha; 45 Jobs Lost

The Spancrete Group filed Monday its intent to close its Waukesha plant permanently on May 30, which will affect 45 employees who have been November 2010, according to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

The 45 employees will be permanently terminated because of the plant closure, the notice states.

“The employees were laid off and not terminated initially last November because at that time the company had anticipated resuming production, which would allow for their return to work,” the notice states. “However, this has not developed and the company has now elected to close operations at its Waukesha facility.”

The notice was also filed with Waukesha Mayor Jeff Scrima. Scrima said during a phone interview that he was not surprised by the news that Spancrete was closing as he received the written notice on Thursday.

Scrima said he has reached out to businesses since he took office a year ago to fill the eastern corridor of the city but would not provide any more details about development on the east side of the city.

“When one door closes, other doors open,” Scrima said. “The city of Waukesha is well prepared to assist in the redevelopment of that eastern corridor.”
