Meijer Gets Final Approvals From Common Council

The Meijer store could open in 2015 in Waukesha.

Meijer's rezoning was approved Tuesday night by the Waukesha Common Council, clearing a large hurdle the developers faced in constructing the grocery and home goods store on a vacant parcel of land at Tenny Avenue and East Sunset Drive, according to Waukesha Now.

The neighbors living in a subdivision to the north of Sunset Drive have been fighting the development from the beginning. The development will be located south of Sunset Drive, but the neighbors have brought forward concerns about noise, saturation of grocery stores, traffic and light pollution. The neighbors saw some success in August when the development was denied following a Common Council meeting that had four absences.
But Alderman Andy Reiland decided to vote against the land use amendment in order to bring the project back to the Common Council. The land use amendment was approved, allowing the final rezoning request to move forward.

Meijer, a food, clothing and home goods store, is attempting build on a vacant parcel of land on East Sunset Drive. Construction was planned to begin in 2014 with the store opening scheduled in 2015.
