HUSCO Adding 150 New Jobs in Waukesha

Four years ago, HUSCO was on the verge of shutdown in Waukesha. Now it's planning a $45 million expansion.

HUSCO in Waukesha is planning a $45 million expansion that will bring 150 new jobs to the community by 2015, the company announced Friday.

The expansion represents a turnaround from four years ago. The manufacturing company cut 400 jobs between 2008 and 2009, according to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article.

The company’s success following turbulent times is not lost on HUSCO President Austin Ramirez.

“A lot of that is thanks to the growth we are having with Ford and elsewhere in the automotive industry,” Ramirez said. “This is really exciting news for us. One of the things I am particular proud of is a lot of that growth is happening here in Waukesha. It wasn’t too long ago, in 2009, this facility was on the verge of shutdown. We had a labor agreement that wasn’t working for us and the economy was really in the tank. Now (four) years later, we have completely changed the story. The culture of this facility has changed, the economy has obviously turned around and now we are able to make some major investments in Waukesha.”

Over the past three years HUSCO has invested more than $116 million in capital equipment, facilities and product development to create over 500 new jobs globally, approximately half of them here in Wisconsin, and will invest an additional $45 million in 2013, states a news release from Gov. Scott Walker.  HUSCO expects to generate more than $360 million in global revenue in 2013, a 300 percent increase over 2009 and 20 percent higher than 2012.

The project comes with up to $800,000 in tax credits from the Wisconsin Development Corporation.

“Obviously, we are particularly pleased today,” Walker said in Waukesha on Friday. “We think back to the previous term, my predecessor’s term in office, Wisconsin lost about 133,000 jobs. The first two years of our term, we have gained 62,000 jobs. They don’t come 1,000 or 2,000 at a time. They come in 25, 50, 100, or in this case, 150, at a time.”

The expansion will benefit the whole community, including the families of new employees, Walker said.

“I don’t think about it terms of numbers,” Walker said. “I think about the fact that there are now 150 more people that not only have a job, but 150 more families where somebody is a little less worried about putting food on the table or clothes on the backs of their kids or paying of the mortgage each month.”

HUSCO, a supplier to Ford Motor Company, was also recognized with a Q1 certification from Ford on Friday.
