Downtown Business Partners With Habitat for House Build Program

Proceeds from new gelato flavor will benefit new house for Waukesha County family.

Part of my role as a member of the Resource and Development Committee for Habitat for Humanity in Waukesha County is to help identify community partnerships between the business community of Waukesha and Habitat.

One Saturday evening after a Habitat event downtown, I approached Lori Lester, owner, with her husband Joe, of Divino Gelato Café downtown Waukesha.  I informed Lester that and asked her if she would like to partner with us in raising money.  I informed her that restaurants, like Chili’s locations throughout Waukesha County, were already partnering with us by donating a percentage of a customer’s check to Habitat. The customer’s responsibility would be to bring in a coupon that could be printed off Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County’s website.

Lester seemed interested in this idea, so I asked if Divino Gelato might even be willing to do a special flavor of Gelato in honor of the home build.  After only a few seconds, she came up with a flavor called “Ground Up” which would be a gelato with Oreo cookies, graham cracker pieces, etc. ground up in it.

The idea was taken to the executive committee of Habitat who liked it.  Now, the ball is in your court, gelato-loving reader.  Will you print off a coupon from the Habitat for Humanity website?  Will you also pick up physical coupons from the Habitat for Humanity office located across the street from gelato on the Main Street Plaza?  The partnership will last until mid-August.  For now, I have to run.  I have to clean up this gelato which always seems to land on my shirt.  Oh no, it’s on my computer as well.  I’ll just tell people I am saving it for later.
