Blast Fitness, Other Tenants Will be Out, But is Aurora Building in its Place?

According to the building's biggest tenant, Blast Fitness, Aurora Health Care has purchased the building at Calhoun and Bluemound and plans to raze it. An Aurora spokesman, however, said that's not quite true.

Blast Fitness, 16895 W. Blue Mound Road, will close Feb. 28 and is telling members the entire building has been sold to Aurora Health Care, who will tear it down in favor of a new facility.

But Aurora spokesman Adam Beeson responded Friday afternoon to an email query from Patch by saying, "We are not purchasing this facility. We are in negotiations to possibly lease the facility, but as of today we have not finalized a deal."

A message left with Brookfield Economic Development Director Dan Ertl was not been returned Friday.

A “Q&A” sheet prepared for Blast Fitness members says all the tenants in the building — including Salon West and Rhoda/Smith and Associates — are having their leases terminated so the building can be demolished. It also says Blast Fitness memberships are being transferred to the West Allis location.

The building has been home to a fitness facility since the early 1980s, with Vic Tanny and Bally's occupying the ground floor prior to Blast purchasing the space in April of 2012.

Rhoda needs all the cash he can get to defend himself and his assets from his felony hit and run charge.

I'm so angry that they are closing this Fitness center. I've been going here for 25 years. The last thing we need here is some stupid medical center.

It's a shame this great location for a gym is being removed for some "medical building". Don't we have enough "Aurora" medical buildings on National Ave that are UNDER STAFFED!??? I Have been going to this gym since 1987. It was Vic Tanny then shortly changed to Bally's. The pool and hot tub was a great relaxation after a hard workout. Why couldn't another gym chain company buy this building and renovated it ( like BLAST WAS GOING TO DO) ??? Blast is nothing more than a SCAM OUTFIT looking for some strip mall cheesy building to run their "FLL BY NIGHT" ORGANIZATION FROM!! Pools and hot tubs are cutting into their PROFITS! No Cleaning employee's; cuts into their profit . I paid $20.00 per month, should include any BLAST location ( now closed mi BROOKFIELD location end of year to close Downtown location too) stink, filthy, and unanswered questions is alI I got for $20.00 per month! GO TO ANOTHER GYM! These sorry for an excuse people need to go out of business!!
